Solar Energy Is Expanded by Duke Energy

Now Duke Energy is announcing expansion plans for solar energy. It is going to grow in the field of renewable energy by merging with actual solar facilities that are being developed at San Antonio, Texas.

Duke Energy is one of the largest energy companies having four million customers. It produces around 35 GW of energy in the United State and 4 GW in Latin America. Moreover, at the moment its commercial wind energy capacity is of 733 MW. It is going to expand its wind capacity by the end of this year to 1 GW. The company has since 2007 spend around $1 billion in expanding its wind energy capacity. The company is engaged in versatile renewable sources of energy such as wind, solar and bio-power and their headquarter is in Charlotte.

The Blue Wing Solar Project will be purchased by Duke Energy Generation Services (DEGS) from Juwi Solar of Boulder, Colorado. The facility provides 14 MW of solar power from First Solar’s 214,500 ground mounted solar thin panels.

The venture is based on a 30-year agreement to purchase clean energy. The whole construction programme is expected to commence very soon. As much as 139 acres of solar project is estimated to be accomplished by the end of the year.

According to Keith Trent, from Duke Energy, the demand for renewable energy keeps on increasing. The company is committed to provide clean energy to electricity customers. The Blue Wing will be the first commercial project that the company will be undertaking in the field of solar energy. Duke Energy is also installing solar panels on the rooftops of residential households through a $50 million programme.

Vision for the Future

Duke Energy is planning to become the full owner of Blue Wing solar project. Moreover, the company is still eager to expand, and is therefore searching for other acquisitions with companies such as ENN group of China. ENN solar energy develops silicon thin film-solar modules.

According to Wouter Van Kempen from DEGS, the acquisitions with Blue Wing Solar Projects expanded the capacity of renewable energy of Duke Energy. The wind energy business has grown from zero to 730 MW in only three years, and similar trends are likely to be experienced in the quest for solar power growth.
