Enel Green Power’s Perspective of Geothermal Energy in Italy

It was very long ago since five light bulbs were lit through energy produced steam coming from underground. The first time in Laderello (Tuscany) the 4th of July 1904 marked that remarkable achievement.

Italy was the first country to use geothermal energy for industrial functions. It has since then remained among the largest providers of geothermal energy.

Every since the inauguration date, geothermal have remained a substantial Italian source of renewable energy. Enel Green Power is managing several geothermal plants in Italy. In Val di Cecine as well as Mt.Amiata (Tuscany) 31 geothermal plants are managed by the company. It produces above 5 billion KWh during a year, enough to fuel around 2 million contemporary households.

Enel Green Power has set geothermal as a steady strategy. They are trying to strengthen their position on the global market by developing and managing more geothermal energy across the world and within Italy.

Actual efforts are already showing signs of growth around the world. Enel Green Power is generating 70 MW of geothermal energy in the United State and is currently in another project of a capacity of 15o MW. In South America potential of two new projects are being planned for Chile having an installed capacity of 100 MW.
