Amending legislations as a prime step towards sustainable energy is certain to bring change to the frontlines. The previously named ‘Project 100’ has changed to ‘Project 150’ and is now a reality. The aim of the project is to boost supply of renewable energy and Connecticut Clean Energy is targeting the attainment of 150 MWs of capacity.
The Project 150 established possibility for long-termism whereby return on investments is more viable and lucrative. The revolutionary legislation aims at creating EPAs, where electric distribution companies need to establish long-standing electric purchase agreements (EPAs). The EPAs should be for a minimum of 150 MW of energy that has been produced from clean green renewable sources.
Connecticut Clean Energy Fund was responsible for making the ‘Project 150’ a possibility. They passed the proposal through its various phases and finally for Department of Public Utility Control (DPUC) to approve it.
There were thirteen companies that were granted the CCEF funding and EPAs. These collaborative projects are expected to rise above 150 MW of energy in Connecticut.
The projects are contemporary at different phases of development classified into rounds.
Round 1, is to create energy from wood biomass in Watertown Renewable Power (Watertown). The second round is more extensive where various diverse projects are in operation:
1. Biomass Digester – Clearview East Canaan Energy (East Canaan)
2. Wood Biomass – Clearview Renewable Energy (Bozrah)
3. Mixed Biomass – Plainfield Renewable Energy (Plainfield)
4. Fuel Cell – Stamford Hospital (Stamford)
5. Fuel Cell – Waterbury Hospital (Waterbury)
6. Fuel Cell DFC-EPG Milford (Milford)
7. Landfill Gas – SNEW Bio-Fuel Power (South Norwalk)
The final round 3, more renewable sources of energy will be harnessed from:
1. Fuel Cell – DFC-ERG Bloomfield (Bloomfield)
2. Fuel Cell – Bridgeport Fuel Cell Park (Bridgeport)
3. Fuel Cell – DFC-ERG Glastonbury (Glastonbury)
4. Fuel Cell – DFC-ERG Trumbull (Trumbull)
5. Fuel Cell – EPG Fuel Cell (Danbury)
Connecticut Clean Energy Fund has made major progress in the state. The various ventures that it has promoted and clean energy planned for the future will certainly safeguard the environment and increase the use of renewable sources of energy.
