In The Count-Down For Copenhagen 15th Summit, Denmark Ranked First For Wind Power

Denmark will have its say in the Copenhagen 15th Summit with its high standing in wind power energy in the European Zone. In the forthcoming summit in Copenhagen, the focus will be on sustainable source of energy which has already headed Denmark as leader in the field. Recent data published by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) reveals pure facts.

In the fight against climate change and endeavor to decrease carbon emissions alternative sources of energy are becoming necessary. In the league of wind power, Denmark is already topping in Europe.

In Denmark as much as 73.8 MW per KM2 is generated from wind power. This has been a result of initiative implemented in the turn of 2008. To recognize the incredible front-run that the Danes are in, just look at France who is only generating 6.2 MW. In the league, Denmark is first and Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Ireland follow.

On the darker side of the list, Romania, Slovenia, Malta and Cyprus are found. They are eventually generating as little as almost zero energy from wind power.

The European Wind Energy Association says that if only the eight largest nations in the European Zone; Sweden, France, Finland, Spain, Germany, UK, Poland and Italy would match the supply of wind energy as Denmark, it would be sufficient to supply the EU-27 with 19% of its electricity requirements. More to the point, it would circumvent a totally CO2 emission of 362M tonnes. By other words, it would already satisfy 30% of the EU’s target for year 2020.

The front-run of Denmark in providing wind power, is according to research enforced by wide public support. Figures show that 91% of the population encourages expansion in wind power plants.

According to Christian Kjaer, Chief Executive of EWEA, generating energy from wind power, is a growing approach to tackle climate change. EWEA foretells that wind power will expand enormously in the near future in countries such as France, UK, Finland, Sweden and other countries in the EU zone.
