Green Prediction for 2009; a Soaring Certainty

Green Prediction for 2009; a Soaring Certainty

Green prediction about industrial development is a year in and year out tradition. Moreover, some prognoses that were set 2008 for 2009 have already been realized.

1. Energy efficiency

A challenge of creating and introducing new technology that is more efficient was a set goal. These improvements have seen, through smart grids, an increase in the jobs available for efficiency research, maintenance and operational management of electricity.

The potential of reducing carbon emission is a long-term goal. The expected reduction might not have been a conquest this year, with different set targets across the globe. Australia is heading for a 20% reduction in carbon emission by year 2020, which is likely to be considered an inadequate figure.

Moreover, the key target for 2009 of creating work in the energy sector has certainly been an accomplishment goal, despite the economic conditions. This can be fortified by Apollo Alliance effort to create jobs in the U.S

2. Global initiative to tackle climate change

The world of politics has already experienced a positive global dialogue to consider climate challenges as a must. The emergence of India and China relationship has been among the doors to a new approach. Their project on renewable energy is astronomical and worth billions of dollars. Moreover, American support from the actual Administration is also projecting similar initiative in California and other green states.

The predicted negotiation and initiative for 2009 that has been raised for the environment challenges have productively struggled its way into the arena.

3. Nexus of food, energy and Water

The nexus of food, energy and water was a heightening issue in the early days of 2009. The corn conversion into ethanol was rendered a dilemma as price of food increased from the exorbitant oil price. The rising price of crude oil, basic foods and energy was a threat to sustainability. However, during the year, the fall in crude oil price, rectified the nexus and rendered ethanol production less attractive.

The introduction of new hybrid or even electric cars to the market is likely to have anticipated future crisis that can be derived from the three variables: food, energy and water, to a certain extent.

This is an outlook of what has been achieved during 2009. Furthermore, regulations and policy making have also been at the core of long-term achievement in striving towards more sustainable sources of energy. There are still a lot that are to be done in the coming year, with massive project already on its way in India and MENA.
