Do It Yourself Wind Power

How Does DIY Wind Power Model Work? …

An arrangement of fan blades is implemented into a tower or installed to your home’s roof.  This structure is meant to accumulate motion producing energy and changing it into electricity for consumption within your home.

The blades of the fan are joined to a pipe or shaft that is linked into a generator. When the blades turn at a sufficient speed, the generator will turn out electricity. If the wind speeds are unusually fast due to a storm or weather anomaly there are brakes within the model to bring the speed of the blades down and reducing the chance of harming the generator.

We never know when the wind is going to blow so we must utilize the local power supply source as well as the wind. When the speed of the wind drops less than seven to ten miles per hour there will be no wind powered electricity and hydro must come from the power grid utility.

When the wind speeds up to above the seven to ten mph target the power grid supply decreases as the wind power begins production increasing its supply. When there is a surplus of power supplied by the wind turbines, the excess energy is sold back to the utility power grid and this lessens our need for nonrenewable energy.

How Much Money Can I Save By Doing This?

It is only an approximation but estimates range from fifty to ninety percent savings on hydro bills. It is not unusual for a hydro bill to be only eight dollars to fifteen dollars based on the speed of the wind and climate variables.

What Amount Of Electricity Must I Produce To See This?

Most houses use an estimated ninety four hundred kilowatt hours of hydro on a yearly basis or roughly 780 KWH per month. A unit would be required to produce about twenty five to thirty KWH per day based on the dimensions of the house and the speed of the winds.

Will I Be Aiding The Environment And Climate Change By Using Wind Power?

You will indeed be helping the environment. There is no pollution produced to make wind power – it is a clean source of power, if not overly reliable. Over the course of its lifespan, wind power structures can help avoid roughly 1.2 tons of air pollutants and 200 tons of green house gases like carbon dioxide and other climate damaging gases.

Wind power has its critics, some claiming the option of wind is hard on bird populations. Others claim it is unhealthy for humans who are in proximity to the large commercial units. Research is underway and ongoing for the latter issue and experts claim birds face a bigger risk from power lines, pesticides and automobiles.

Are Wind Surveys Going To Be Required In Order To Find Out How Much Money I Can Save?

Wind surveys are used to determine the performance of wind power. General data regarding wind is probably sufficient for personal wind usage and the department of energy publishes more detail for commercial users or homes located in active wind locations.

Is It Possible For Wind Power To Bother My Television Reception?

Wind structures do make some noise but there is little chance of technical issues with reception. Washing machines make more noise than ordinary wind power structures do and they will not interfere with television at all.

You can pay upwards of over twenty thousand dollars for a wind power system but they range from six thousand dollars and up and that price includes installation and depends on the size of the structure purchased. You can build your own system for as little as one hundred fifty dollars.

They are relatively easy to maintain since there are so few parts to be concerned with. The systems operate automatically and the Do it yourself models provide price relief and are accompanied by complete hands on instruction. Many energy minded homeowners use a combination of wind power and solar power for minimum power utility grid usage.
