Solar Energy Myth Buster #3 – Solar Power Costs Too Much!

Solar Energy Myth Buster #3 – Solar Power Costs Too Much!

The price tag for building the various pieces solar power equipment is quite quickly becoming less expensive; however, the consumer expenditure to set up a residential solar power unit continues to appear excessive – is it really?

Sleight Of Hand

The Federal US government has customarily supplied inducement and financial support of some kind to the energy sector and usually for conventional resources like nuclear and coal generated power. The financial handouts given to renewable sources are actually about one hundred times less and this makes these power supplies seem to be more expensive than they actually are. This is a sleight of hand tactic where money changes hands and things do not appear to be what they really are.

Does This Mean Traditional Power Will Become Cheaper?

Not in the least! As the reserves of fossil fuel diminish, the price of accessing an increasingly more difficult to locate supply increases and guess who winds up paying for it? This scenario is getting worse and there is no relief in sight. The rates we pay for utilities have risen annually by 5.5 percent since 1970. The tough part to stomach is that when we pay these rates we can never expect to recoup the cost in equity. The rates keep going up and we continue to pay it with blinders on.

Concealed Expense Of Conventional Electricity

Federal handouts to this industry make them appear to be a great deal for us. However, there are certain intangible expenses that are not obvious. In the end, you pay taxes and these taxes go to pay out the subsidies. More costs you do not readily see are the pollution related expenses, damage to the environment, natural habitation, and health care expenditures from contaminants produced by conventional energy.

When you factor in these hidden expenditures, renewable power sources start to look pretty good.

State Governments Offer Hope

Many more states are realizing the need to have a larger footprint with renewable energy and solar power is the target. They are supplying consumers with sizeable reimbursements for new solar power installs. California in particular is one of the leaders with their California Solar Initiative giving rebates based on the forecasted effectiveness of a new solar power set up. They help significantly in assisting the consumer and balancing the field of play.

Concealed Benefits Of Solar Power

While we easily recognize the more obvious advantages of solar power systems, lower electric bill or no bill at all, safeguarding the ecology, there are some not as blatant. For instance, when you install a solar power system at your home you could very likely be increasing the value of your home. Often home improvements do nothing to raise property value, not so with solar. This capital gain alone needs to be considered into the cost of solar power.

As we continue to witness the damage done to our environment from conventional energy supplies, the acceptance of solar power as a renewable power source is taking too long to implement. The reason is thought to be because of the many myths and fallacies that abound regarding this incredible source of energy. The number one being that solar power is too expensive. By presenting a viable defense of the solar power sector, the hope is more people will consider the advantages available when solar power is installed in their homes.
