Of all of the Canadian provinces that have embraced the amazing power of wind turbines, Ontario seems to be winning the race. It has recently been recognised as making the biggest strides to using wind power in a purposeful and large scale way.
The province has a massive eight brand new wind power projects lined up for future development, which automatically makes it the front runner when it comes to wind power station development in Canada. While the province does not have the highest number of projects, it most definitely has the fastest pace. Some of these eight projects are already under construction.
Plans are in place to have some of the projects done and dusted by 2012. This is an incredible rate of progress, and bodes well for future projects that could be developed and set up after this date. One of the more recent developments concerns Samsung, the electronics giant. They plan to build a massive wind turbine farm on the shores of the Lake Erie. While Ontario and Samsung have not yet inked a deal, the signs are good. If the farm does go ahead, this will mean a massive extra 200 wind turbines in Canada. These are exciting times indeed, and not just for Canada. The world stands to make benefits from such a massive explosion of activity.
Quebec is close to Ontario in the number of individual installations as regards wind power, but it will be left far behind if Ontario gets things moving in time. The whole thing is very promising, and bodes well for renewable energy overall.
What all of this means is that Canada is pretty much in good stead to rule the world when it comes to wind power. There aren’t many places, in fact, in Canada that do not have wind power either in place or on the horizon. It is interesting that Canada has made such great strides while other countries have been content to stand on the sidelines.
All that remains now is for other countries to take Canada’s lead, and to investigate the wind power industry properly, so the pace that has been set can be matched. It is not that hard to locate a good site for a wind farm, and the benefits to the country they are situated in are virtually immeasurable. Wind power is not the most reliable of renewable energy sources, but it is most certainly one of the most accessible.
